Forgetfulness, by Billy Collins

This is a beautiful poem by Billy Collins (former US Poet Laureate). As the title suggests, it is about forgetfulness.

Thanks to the Wordsworth Bookshop in Penrith, Cumbria, for flagging this one up as their ‘poem of the day’ on Wednesday. (NOTE: the Wordsworth Bookshop are now displaying copies of our zines on their tables. Pop along for a coffee and a read!)

Watch this great animated version of Collins’ poem:

Billy Collins “The Dead”

Posting your poetry in a different way.
This video demonstrates how poetry can live in different mediums. Posting a video,  animation or recording is an exciting way to put your work out there. It brings your words to life, and for the first time your readers can listen to how you want the poem to be read. Not only could this broaden your audience, but  it is something that you could later use to publicise. This particular video works very well with the animation, it heightens the sensual experience of a poem, in a simple, beautiful way.

Billy Collins, former US Poet Laureate and one of America’s best-selling poets, reads his poem “The Dead” with animation by Juan Delcan of Spontaneous.
